For Immediate Release Princeton, Minn. January 12, 2015
Trevor Leighton used consistent qualifying and a second place finish on Saturday night to move into the top spot in the AMSOIL Championshion Snocross Pro Lite division. Leighton won two of his four heat races over the weekend and was off to a great start in Friday night’s final before a mishap involving teammate Zak Mason. Both FLY Racing/Walker Evans team riders had clearly distanced themselves from the pack as they left the starting line. However, when Mason hit an ice patch it caused him to careen into Leighton, whose ski then became lodged in the back of Mason’s tunnel. Unfortunately, Mason was ejected from his sled resulting in a broken shoulder that will force him to sit out at least the next two rounds of ACS competition. It was a personal best weekend for Pro Open rider Corin Todd, who scored top ten finishes each day. Todd has shown the speed to run at the front of the back but has been plagued by bad luck that had produced inconsistent results coming into the weekend. With ninth and seventh place finishes under his belt, Todd’s confidence is back on the rise and he is looking forward to making a mark in his first appearance at the ESPN Winter X Games in two weeks. The team has the upcoming weekend off but will be traveling to Colorado to begin testing for the X Games in Aspen. The following week will begin a series of back-to-back rounds on the national tour, criss-crossing from the Deadwood Shootout in the Black Hills to upstate New York for the Seneca Allegany U.S. Air Force National.
Corin Todd rises above the snowdust during Saturday Pro Open practice.
Zak Mason is expected to miss at least two rounds of national competition while he recovers from a broken shoulder blade.
