Lake Nebagamon, Wisc. – February 2, 2015 – Ross Martin doubled up on podium appearances for the second consecutive weekend of AMSOIL Championship Snocross competition, finishing third and second at the Deadwood Shootout in the Black Hills of South Dakota.
Each night Martin was among the early race leaders on the tight bullring course inside the Days of ’76 Rodeo grounds. “On Saturday, I didn’t qualify well,” said Martin. I got caught in a first turn pileup and had the seventh gate pick for the final which, at this track, is like back row material anywhere else. I knew the start was all or nothing and that I might end up in that corner again, piled up, but I was going for it and gave it my all and ended up finishing second.”
Martin has put together a string of five consecutive podium finishes on the national tour, six including the X Games, and has moved up one more spot in the standings to fifth. Even more important, he is now just one point behind fourth and only 22 markers back from second place. “We got off to a rough start but hopefully we can just keep this going,” said Martin. My plan is to go strong to the end of the year, I want as many wins and podiums as I can get.”
It will be a brief but busy turnaround this week as the team makes a stop at race shop in Wisconsin before heading to upstate New York on Wednesday for the Seneca Allegany U.S. Air Force National on February 6-7.
Last week while traveling from Aspen to Deadwood, the transporter struck four Mule deer in Wyoming causing serious damage to the truck and significant cosmetic damage to our new trailer. Fortunately everyone was okay and the rig was able to stay on the road, but a pit stop will be in order before making out way out east.
