Elk River, Minnesota (February 11, 2015) – Brimming with confidence and speed not exhibited by any other rider on the track, Ryan “Anvil” Springer continued his scorching assault on the Pro-Lite field with back-to-back wins at the Seneca Allegany’s National Snocross in Salamanca, New York. Bombing the track on the opening laps has become Springer’s calling card. Such was the case in New York, where Springer romped through qualifying with 2-1 efforts both days and then burst from the front row with a “let it all hang out” effort resulting in flag-to-flag going away wins.
Springer’s Carlson Motorsports teammate Andrew Carlson struggled on Friday with a tough day of qualifying due to mechanical issues that routed him through the last chance qualifier for a back row main event start. Despite the set-back, Carlson put on a clinic in the art of passing as he charged his way from the back row with surgical precision. With each subsequent lap, Carlson would gain a position, and only time and laps remaining limited his success as he finished 4th at the checkered. Saturday, Andrew regained his top of pack form, with a front row qualifying effort. At the green, Carlson nailed the holeshot with Springer hot on his heals. A few mis-steps in the opening laps slipped Carlson back, where he narrowly missed the podium with another strong 4th place finish.
The assault of the “Anvil” Springer has been the result of intensity, hard-work, and top-notch equipment. His lap times have been 1-2 seconds faster than anyone else on the track since his win in Deadwood. “I just tell myself I’m not backing off,” Springer said after his third Pro-Lite win in a row. “The guys have our sleds working so well…we (Andrew and myself) get the holeshot and then I just go all out on the opening laps.”
The string of wins has pushed Springer into the Pro-Lite points lead, and Carlson has inched closer, sitting just 18-points behind his teammate in the standings.
“Our Polaris sleds are working so well,” said team owner and manager Chris Carlson. “Everything is really starting to come together…Springer is riding like he is on fire, and Andrew is getting back to how he rode last year, when he was consistently on the podium. He’s one good lap away…and it feels like he’s ready to open it up.”
The team will now return to their hometown track (ERX Motor Park) in Elk River, Minnesota where they will spend the week testing a few new set-ups and refining existing ones. “The chips are on the table for the taking,” said Carlson, “and we’re determined to go all in and take em.”
Racing highlights from the weekend will be televised on CBS Sports with complete day one (round #9) coverage airing February 22 at 9:00am and 11:00am (central); and day 2 (round #10) broadcast March 1 at 9:00am and 11:00am.
