Zimmerman, Minn. January 25, 2016 – Corin Todd achieved a career milestone for both himself and the Leighton Motorsports team on Friday night in Deadwood, South Dakota, when he raced to a second place finish in the Pro Open final.
Todd, who had been getting great start all day, jumped out to a huge lead at the start of the main event, pulling away from challengers as the race wore on. With the inevitable threat of multi-time series champion Tucker Hibbert looming behind him, Todd maintained composure as he worked through lapped traffic. Hibbert would ultimately take the lead with just a few laps remaining but Todd continued to stretch his margin over third place right to the finish.
On Saturday, Todd chased down the early race leaders and was in contention for his second straight podium as he battled for the third spot. One bobble on a step-up jump coming into the final turn put the New York native in a three-way, bar-to-bar, battle where he was shuffled to fifth place at the finish.
The combination of qualifying points and main event finishes moved Corin up two places to sixth in the national championship, just seven points out of fourth.
Trevor Leighton accomplished his goal of making both Pro Open mains events for the second straight event. Leighton had some issues in the finals finishing 15th and 11th, but also showed great improvement in qualifying with a pair of third place finishes.
The team is now in Aspen, Colorado as we prepare for Thursday’s ESPN Winter X Games before moving on the following weekend for rounds 9 & 10 of national competition in Salamanca, New York.
