A Family Affair as Lebel Brothers Double Down in Canterbury

Jan 25, 2026

Shakopee, Minn. ~ The frigid grip of winter continued to define racing conditions as the AMSOIL Championship Snocross presented by Brunt Workwear returned to Canterbury Park for round five. Dry air, bitter cold, and a sugary snow surface challenged riders across the board on the venue’s massive layout, placing a premium on precision, patience, and adaptability as the track evolved throughout the night.

Friday’s action of the U.S. Air Force Snocross National delivered a clear snapshot of a championship season in transition. A rookie’s first career Pro victory headlined the night, while another contender took a meaningful step forward in the ultra-competitive Pro Lite class. With round six looming, the question remains whether experience and veteran composure will reassert themselves, or if the sport’s new guard is beginning to seize control as the championship battles intensify.

Lebel Leads Family Sweep with Commanding Pro Victory

Jordan Lebel carried the momentum from the staging area straight onto the track Saturday night, turning family pride into a statement win in the Pro final. Moments after watching his brother Dylan secure his first career Pro Lite victory, Lebel launched off the start line and claimed the early lead, setting the tone for what became a sweep of the top Pro classes for the Lebel family.

Daniel Benham, who entered the weekend as the AMSOIL Pro points leader, slotted in behind Lebel and briefly grabbed the advantage on lap two, but Lebel countered less than a lap later to reclaim the top spot and never looked back. He led the remainder of the race to earn his second win in the past three rounds, vaulting him into the Pro points lead over Gustav Sahlsten.

“I felt really comfortable on the track, and just hit my lines tonight,” said Lebel. “I knew Emil wasn’t too far behind because I could hear his sled. But I just kept my lines, kept my pace, and we came out on top.”

Defending champion Emil Harr continued his steady return to form following an early-season injury, charging from a fifth-place start to secure second for his second podium in the past three rounds at Canterbury Park. Friday night winner Crayden Dillon backed up his first career Pro victory with another strong charge through the field, settling into third by the halfway point to complete his second podium finish of the weekend.

Lebel Leads Wide-Open Battles in Action-Packed Pro Lite Final

After earning his first victory of the season on Friday, Eric Downs returned to the track Saturday night looking to keep the momentum rolling in the U.S. Air Force Pro Lite final. Downs nailed the holeshot and immediately set a strong pace at the front, but Dylan Lebel and Drew Freeland began applying pressure as the race settled in.

On lap four, Lebel created separation from Freeland and uncovered a fast triple-triple combination that allowed him to surge past Downs for the lead. That line proved to be the difference, as Lebel continued to build his advantage and drove away to secure his first career Pro Lite win after a challenging start to the winter.

“I was just trying to focus,” said Lebel. “Eric rode really well at the beginning of the race and I just had to keep my momentum and just keep pushing. (The win) feels amazing.”

Behind him, Downs and Freeland were locked in a drag race for second until a pass attempt unsettled Freeland’s sled, opening the door for Downs to pull clear and earn his second consecutive podium finish.

The late-race shuffle also brought the battle for fourth into the podium mix, with Evan Christian and points leader Cameron Cole fighting for the final spot on the box. Christian held off Cole through the final turns to claim third place, earning his third podium finish of the season.

Four Straight for Rookie Hemmer in Pro AM Women

Avery Hemmer continued her standout run at Canterbury Park, leaving the weekend firmly in control of the Bikeman Pro AM Women class and the championship lead. The rookie swept both weekends of competition at the horse track, earning what could be described as the “Crown of Canterbury,” and backed it up Saturday with a dominant start-to-finish performance. Hemmer grabbed the lead off the start and quickly opened a commanding gap, driving to her class-leading fifth win of the season.

“Everybody in the trailer has been putting in so much work,” said Hemmer. “We finally got a start and have been putting in the work at the practice track. We just got it done (tonight).”

Behind her, Inanna Hauger settled into second place early and delivered another composed ride, holding off pressure to secure her fifth consecutive podium finish. Victoria Dillon continued her remarkable consistency as well, completing the podium in third and remaining perfect on the season with a podium finish in every round.

Todd Extends Streak as Pro AM Plus Battle Tightens

The Thomas Sno Sports AM Plus class continues to grow more competitive, and Corin Todd has responded by raising his performance to match the pressure. Todd nailed another strong start on Saturday and never looked back, leading the final to secure his third consecutive victory while extending his points advantage.

“Just consistency in the trailer,” Todd attributed to his recent success. “We didn’t change a lot from yesterday and the set-up worked great. It takes a lot of work to get here, and I can’t thank everybody who helps enough.”

Two-time winner Brian Petersen appeared poised to challenge for the top spot, running second before exiting the race with two laps remaining. That development opened the door for Tyler Oomen, who capitalized to finish second and extend his podium streak to six races to open the season. Adam Johnson, who has hovered just off the podium with several fourth-place finishes this winter, moved into third following Petersen’s withdrawal to earn his first podium finish of the year.

Duffy Rebounds with Convincing Sport Victory

Kamden Duffy entered the weekend as the Pirtek Sport points leader, but after finishing outside the top five on Friday, the momentum swung to Justin Blazevic, who was untouchable in Round Five and took over the championship lead. Duffy began his response on Saturday in emphatic fashion, nailing the holeshot and quickly pulling away from the field to secure his first victory of the young season.

Blazevic was forced to battle his way back onto the podium after Friday’s win. Colin Taggart held the runner-up position through much of the race, but trouble on the final lap opened the door for Blazevic to move into second, earning his third podium finish of the year. AJ Skogquist capitalized on the late-race shuffle as well, advancing from fourth to third to secure his second podium of the weekend.

vanHorsigh Completes Sport Lite Sweep with Flag-to-Flag Victory

Carter vanHorsigh continued his breakout weekend in the Flextoy Powersport Rentals Sport Lite class on Saturday, completing the sweep with another dominant wire-to-wire performance. After earning his first career victory in Round Five, vanHorsigh wasted no time asserting control in the final, quickly stretching his advantage in the opening laps and never relinquishing the lead.

The weekend momentum vaulted vanHorsigh into a six-point championship lead over Derek Gosselin, who finished fifth. Behind the winner, Thomas Didier delivered a strong and composed ride to claim second place, fending off pressure from Zach Miller over the closing laps to earn his second podium of the season. Miller capped off a consistent day that included a heat-race win, finishing third to secure his first podium of the year.

Specialty Box & Crate Junior 14–15: Points leader Carter vanHorsigh completed the weekend sweep in Saturday’s Specialty Box & Crate Junior 14–15 final, leading from the drop of the green flag and holding off a persistent challenge from Ryder Harnois to secure his third victory of the season.

Round one winner Harnois established himself as the primary challenger early, locking down the runner-up position on the opening lap and earning his second podium finish of the weekend. Jackson Goike continued his late-weekend momentum, backing up his best race of the season with another podium performance, finishing third for the second straight night.

Lakeland Powersports Junior Girls 9-13:Peyton Weisbrod jumped out to the holeshot in Saturday’s Lakeland Powersports Junior Girls 9–13 final, but the race quickly settled into another showcase performance from Charlie Buteau. Buteau made her move into the lead on lap two and immediately turned up the pace, stretching the margin at the front to remain perfect on the season with six wins through six rounds.

Behind her, Lila Hemmer applied steady pressure on Weisbrod throughout the race and capitalized on the final lap to secure second place, earning her fifth podium finish of the year. Weisbrod stayed within striking distance to the checkered flag, crossing the line third to capture her first podium of the winter.

Arctic FX Junior 10-13: Logan Bruch had his first Arctic FX Junior 10–13 victory of the season within reach on Saturday, controlling the opening half of the final at Canterbury Park. Points leader Ryan Shimanski stayed patient, tracking Bruch throughout the race before making a decisive move to the front in the second half of the contest.

Shimanski led the remaining laps to secure his third consecutive win, while Bruch kept the pressure on to finish second, crossing the line just two sled lengths back to maintain his position in the championship chase. Jack Gelinas completed the podium with a steady third-place result, earning his second straight podium finish of the season.

Anderson’s Maple Syrup Transition 9-13: Points leader Ryan Shimanski continued his dominant run in the Anderson’s Maple Syrup Transition 9–13 class on Saturday, completing his second weekend sweep of the season with a wire-to-wire victory. The win marked Shimanski’s fifth overall triumph of the year as he maintained full control at the front of the field from start to finish.

Round Four winner Isaac Otto remained a model of consistency, extending his podium streak to six races to open the season with a strong runner-up performance. Noah Gillis rebounded from an eighth-place start, charging through the field to reach third by lap two and holding that position to earn his first podium finish of the season.

SPEEDWERX Transition 8-10: Noah Kuhn continues to assert early control of the Speedwerx Transition 8–10 class, and Saturday’s final only reinforced his grip on the championship picture. Kuhn completed the weekend sweep in dominant fashion, leading from start to finish to earn his fourth consecutive victory of the season.

Deegan Giguere held a firm handle on the runner-up position throughout the race, returning to the podium after narrowly missing out on Friday night. Isaiah Cunningham built on his best result of the season from the night before, improving on a fourth-place finish with a convincing ride to third, securing his first podium appearance of the year.

Rox Speed FX Stock 200: Everett Storlie continued to build momentum in the Rox Speed FX Stock 200 class on Saturday, delivering a decisive performance at Canterbury Park. After opening his season in round three and earning a victory in Round Four, Storlie followed up a narrow runner-up finish on Friday night by leading wire-to-wire for his second win of the season on Saturday.

Round one winner Landon Lysne moved into second place on lap two and maintained the position to secure his fourth podium finish of the winter. Aden Borgen turned in his strongest ride of the year, holding off Friday night winner Deegan Giguere to claim third place and complete the podium.

Rox Speed FX Champ 120: The Saturday night show opened with an exciting battle in the Rox Speed FX 120 Champ class. Deegan Giguere was on the move from the start, grabbing the holeshot and establishing the early lead before coming under pressure from Lincoln Skar. Giguere responded late, finding clean track and enough breathing room to drive to his first victory of the season.

Behind him, Skar was forced to fend off a determined challenge from Lincoln Lubke, who was making his season debut. Skar held his line through the final lap to secure second place and earn his second podium finish of the year, while Lubke completed an impressive return with a strong third-place result.
