March 17, 2014, Lake Geneva Wisconsin- The AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series wrapped up this past weekend in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin with three solid days of competition at the Lake Geneva Resort and Spa. This annual grand finale draws one of the largest crowds on the snocross tour, pulling fans from both the Milwaukee and Chicago markets. ISOC officials streamed live content via Ustream, and CBS Sports was there to provide live national coverage of the event for the first in series history.
Darrin Mees remained out after an injury to his ankle earlier in the season leaving Petter Narsa to solo for the team this weekend. Petter started out a bit off on Friday, finishing 6th in his first qualifier. In the second qualifier, Narsa took the hole shot and finished in 1st with a commanding lead. This set him up as the 5th fastest qualifier going into Friday’s Pro main event— where he again pulled the hole shot, powering off the line in first, and carrying that lead through the mayhem of turn one. The crowd was absolutely wild! Kamm then drew up quickly on the uphill and passed, with Tucker fast behind —overcoming both Narsa and Kamm, sending Narsa now to third. Narsa held his third place position decisively for the remainder of the 15 lap final —securing the number 3 podium slot at one of the most publicized events of the season.
Day two, Narsa had a decent start in his first heat. The announcers were noting his big gains when he violently crashed in the whoop section- having a complete off and a struggle to restart his machine. He quickly made up ground to finish there in 4th. In Saturday’s second heat race he finished a comfortable third. This now qualified Narsa as the 4th fastest qualifier of the night—setting him solidly on the front row for the main. At the start, Petter had less bite, coming off the line this time in 8th— where he stayed for the remainder of Saturday’s Pro Final.
On Sunday, Narsa went 2 and 4 in his heat races— once again qualifying as the 4th fastest qualifier for the Pro Main. There he pulled off the line mid pack- and finished 6th overall in the intense 15 lap final. The gains made over the weekend advanced Narsa up in the points chase- ranking him 8th overall in National Points for the 13-14 season.
“Team Jimmy John’s was nailing the hole shots all day on Friday with the sticky wet snow conditions. Our set- up was solid. It got colder on Saturday and the snow crystalized to a sugary base —favoring the Polaris teams. The competition here is intense, and the track is known for its insane uphill run right off the start. Nobody here is playing. They are all on the top of their game- so to podium at Geneva is a big deal.” The team will soon begin its summer training regiment- as the snowmobile season gets back in full swing at Hay Days — just 5 short months away. While you wait, swing by Jimmy John’s to get your freaky fast sandwich.
