New class for Snow Bikes added to mix for 2016 at East Coast Snocross, Presented by AMSOIL, Woody’s Traction and FXR
CLARKSBURG, Mass. (Nov. 7, 2015) – Officials at East Coast Snocross (ECS) are pleased to announce the addition of a new class for Snow Bikes for all 2016 points events.
Snow Bike racing is growing in popularity in many different parts of the snowbelt. In fact, longtime snowmobile manufacturer and racing supporter Polaris owns the Timbersled brand of bike and will offer a new contingency program this season paying $100 to the Final round winner in every ECS Snow Bike event.
“Interest in a class for Snow Bikes has grown rapidly in the last year or two,” ECS series owner Kurt Gagne said. “I am so pleased to have Tom Rager at Polaris in support of this idea. I think it’ll add an exciting new twist to our race weekends, and maybe even draw new riders to our sport. I hope folks will plan to see one of these races over the course of our 2016 season.”
Vernal Forbes, of Boise, ID, came up with the concept of snow bikes in 1993, and developed his first prototype in 1998. His company (2moto) dominated the landscape until the Timersled company, based in Ponderay, Idaho, introduced its Mountain Horse model in 2010. Since that time, the sport has gained popularity far beyond its original Idaho home.
Polaris added the Timbersled brand to its family of products in April of this year. Founded in 2001 by Allen and Natasha Mangum, Timbersled is the leading developer and manufacturer of snow bikes. The company began by designing and selling aftermarket accessories for snowmobiles.
