Christian Takes Podium At Silverdome Snocross

Fertile, Minn. (February 13, 2012) – This past weekend was another hectic and highly-successful one for the Christian Brothers Racing team. It began on Friday, February 10, when the team traveled to Pontiac, Mich., to compete at the ISOC Michigan National snocross. For the second year in a row the Michigan National race took place inside the Silverdome, a prestigious sporting venue that puts fans right on top of the action.

Logan Christian went 4-2 in heat racing and Garth Kaufman went 2-3, earning them both a spot in the final, while Cory Davis transferred through the LCQ. Racing took place on a small, tight track put together on the floor of the Silverdome. A hairpin start had been causing problems for racers all night and it did again in the Pro Open final when a bunch of riders got tangled together and held up both Kaufman and Davis. Christian made his way around the melee and took off in pursuit of the leaders. Christian broke into second place when another rider tipped over but he ran out of laps in pursuit of the leader. It is the second time Christian has finished on the second-highest podium spot in the ISOC Pro class and his first podium this season.

“I got a good start and just rode as hard as I could,” said Christian. “There were so many riders it was hard to tell what position I was in, but I knew I was doing good so I just kept pushing. My crew put together a great setup for me and we worked real hard for this one.”

Davis finished 9th and Kaufman finished 13th. After six races Kaufman sits in 8th place in Pro Open points with 162, Davis is in 10th with 154 and Christian is back in 18th with 110 points.

Two days later the team found itself in Grafton, N.D., for the USCC Grafton 100 cross-country race. A snowstorm two weeks earlier had dumped 8-10 inches on the area and the USCC had set up a 20-mile course that consisted of river, ditches, fields and woods.

D.J. Ekre set the pace early in the day in the 2-lap Pro Open race posting a time of 41:17.245, almost a minute faster than Ekre’s teammate and second place rider Ryan Simons. Just two seconds behind Simons in third place was Cory Davis and Logan Christian took the 8th spot in the finishing order.

The Pro 600 race was set for five laps, a 100-mile run that proved a brutal one. Fifteen sleds tripped the transponder timer to start the race but only seven made it the entire 100-miles. Ekre once again set the pace, finishing nearly two minutes ahead of the second place sled and putting a stamp on his clean sweep of the Pro classes for the weekend.

“Grafton was a great weekend for the team,” said Ekre. “Our Stud Buy Arctic Cat’s were working so good – we had the speed and handling on everyone else and they do everything so well. I’m looking forward to the next race.”

“This weekend our team showed once again how well they can adapt to whatever challenges are put in front of them,” said team co-owner Dwight Christian. “I’m really proud of Logy – he worked hard for that podium, coming back from knee surgery in the off season. And D.J., he’s in the groove right now and these cross-country races are his for the taking.”

Christian continued: “Weekends like these also highlight our sponsors and the quality of equipment they provide us. We’re so fortunate to have an Arctic Cat snowmobile that can do so many things so well and put us on the podium at two completely different events in one weekend. And our Drift Racing and Troy Lee Designs gear is suitable for whatever competition we’re at, whether it’s racing indoors or up in North Dakota.”
