East Burke Race Rewind
The first race of the East Coast Snocross season is in the books. Damexco Racing fought hard Dec. 8-9 and came home with numerous top-five finishes.
Leading the charge in the pro division were Mathieu Morin and Lucas Brunelle. For Brunelle, this season marks his first year competing in the highly competitive pro division. For Morin, it marks his return to a series he dominated two years ago in route to his overall Pro championship.
Lucas showed his speed early in the weekend. In the first final, he was able to grab the holeshot and get out to an early lead. Being new to the Pro division, he was not used to the long races and slipped back to 6th by the finish. Morin was able to work his way through a track many claimed very difficult to pass on and finished 4th. In Sunday’s final, Morin finished 3rd and Brunelle 7th.
“By the end of the weekend, we were able to have our machines dialed in very well and I felt comfortable,” Morin said. “This track was VERY difficult to pass on and that hurt me since I was having bad luck on the starts and had to fight all race to pass.”
Although Brunelle showed the speed to compete with the Pro’s, he struggled with his endurance of the long races, but is up to the challenge.
“The races are longer than anything I am used to,” Brunelle said. “I knew that was going to be the toughest adjustment heading into the season, but I have been in the gym preparing even more. We have a couple weeks off before the next race so I will be putting in overtime at the gym to make sure I am ready next time!”
Rounding out the team was Adam Sedlmeier in the Pro Lite division. For Sedlmeier, it was the first time he took to the track this year. He adjusted well and came home with a 4th and 6th place finishes in his respected finals.
The circuit will take a three week break before returning January 12-13 at Airborn Park Speedway in Plattsburgh, NY for the second stop on the ECS tour. Damexco Racing would like to thank all of our friends for their support and hope you have a safe and fun Holiday season!
