Fertile, Minn. (February 18, 2013) – With its riders scattered across the globe at different snowmobile racing events, Christian Brothers Racing was able to bring home podium finishes in two different disciplines while at the same time embarking on the longest snowmobile race on the planet. Logan Christian and Garth Kaufman traveled to Tuuri, Finland, to compete in the FIM Snowcross World Championship. With the help of Bengan Westerlund (www.catmaster.se), the team was able to get ready in record time to represent the Untied States on the world’s stage for snowcross.

In the World Championship format riders compete in motos and their finishes in the three motos determine their final finish. Christian went 3-1-3 in his heats which landed him a third place podium finish at the event. Garth Kaufman was forced to drop out of competition after a crash in practice left him with a compressed disc in his spine.

“It was definitely a good day of racing,” said Christian. “We were on box-stock snowmobiles but even out of the box the Arctic Cats are fast, so we weren’t giving up much to anyone, and our mechanics along with Bengan Westerlund worked hard to get them tuned in time. Garth getting hurt in practice was a huge bummer, I think we could have claimed another spot on that podium if we both would have been racing.”

Ryan Simons, fresh off his Seven Clans I-500 win, and Zach Herfindahl traveled to Hoyt Lakes, Minn., to compete in the USXC East Range 100. Simons was leading the Pro 600 race on the time charts when his snowmobile blew a belt. Before he could get it fixed on the course two riders passed him on the time charts including Herfindahl, who finished second. Simons was able to hang on and take the third and final podium spot. Herfindahl also nabbed a podium finish in Pro Open where he finished third with Simons finishing just behind him in fourth.

Cross-Country rider Brian Dick is currently in Alaska competing in the longest snowmobile race in the world, the Iron Dog. Brian and his parter Eric Quam have set out on the 2,000-mile race that will take them from Big Lake West to Nome and then back East to the finish in Farbanks. They are Team 23, Brian’s race number. If suspicion has anything to do with success then the odds are on their side- they drew the 23rd starting spot and the race concludes on February 23. Coincidence? We hope not!
