Aurora, MN (March 20, 2012) Robbie Malinoski nearly chased down Ross Martin for the AMSOIL Pro Open win on Saturday, finishing second and claiming his 10th podium of the season. On Sunday, Malinoski raced to a fourth aboard his AMSOIL/U.S. Air Force/Rockstar Energy Drink Ski-Doo, securing the third spot overall in the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series.
Teammate Darrin Mees raced to a sixth on Saturday and despite an early race tangle on Sunday, was able to finish the season just one spot behind veteran Malinoski in fourth overall. That placement earned Mees the ISOC Rookie of the Year award and contributed to the squad being recognized as the 2012 Team of the Year for our accomplishments on the track and efforts to promote the sport and our sponsors away from the track.
With unseasonably warm temperatures in the low 80’s all weekend, the team struggled with clutching and carburetion during the qualifying rounds but found the sweet spot
when it counted. A massive Chicagoland crowd turned out in t-shirts and flip flops
to enjoy the unique viewing experience as the Lake Geneva Resort provided the scenic conclusion to one of the most competitive snocross seasons in history.
Prior to the event, the team awarded our final of 16 Race to the Future academic scholarships at the Lake Geneva High School. U.S. Air Force Tech Sargent Chris Robison was on hand to take part in the school visit, as well as the entire Grand Finale experience at Lake Geneva.
