SHAKOPEE, Minnesota (November 27, 2012) – Hentges Racing found the front of the pack several times during the first weekend of 2012-13 AMSOIL Championship Snocross, held at Spirit Mountain in Duluth, Minn. The preparation and pre-season training was well worth the wait. Snocross fans were ready for the show, especially after how last seasoned ended..in Hentges domination.
The three day race weekend started with the AMSOIL Dominator competition showcasing the 16 fastest Snocross racers in the world. Hentges Racing teammates Justin Broberg #168 and Kody Kamm #53, last season’s Pro Lite champion, would fill two of those spots. Lining up side by side for two lap sprint races, two racers at a time compete head to head through bracket style racing. Both Hentges riders made it to the quarterfinals. Hentges highlight for Friday evening was Kamm putting down the fastest lap time (20.924) in round one by a near half a second over the competition.
Round one on Saturday and two on Sunday of AMSOIL Championship Snocross brought ups and downs as well as wind and snow. Teammates Kamm and Broberg showed they have what it takes to be on top all season. Broberg placed 2nd behind Tucker Hibbert in round two on Saturday, which was the best qualifying finishing position for the team that day. Kamm would win the LCQ to get into the Pro Open final on Saturday. With a back row start in 11th, Kamm jumped into 4th off the line to a finish just out of the top five in 6th place. Broberg would take his place on the front line for the Pro Open final in 8th position. When it was time to go green, Broberg would get tangled on the line and finish just outside of the top 10 in 12th place.
Sunday, Broberg was consistent in qualifying, placing 2nd in both rounds. He would continue with his deuces as second qualifier for the round two Pro Open final. Hentges highlight of the weekend goes to Broberg for his consistent performances. For a new team and on a new machine, Broberg has already proven he is top competition and one to watch.
“The sleds are working awesome and I’m starting to feel really comfortable riding. This Saturday was my first race on a Polaris snowmobile. I’m happy with my results and it’s only going to keep getting better. The Hentges team is awesome. Great atmosphere and everyone just works together to have some of the best equipment on the circuit,” said Broberg.
Qualifying for Kamm on Sunday did not go as planned. In the first round, racing up near the front, Kamm went down but was able to finish the heat race. He redeemed himself in the second round placing 3rd. A hard first round put him into a tough LCQ with Friday’s Dominator winner Ross Martin amongst other seasoned Pros. The rookie came in 7th and ended his weekend. As he focuses on the next rounds expect Kamm to race this season like he did the last – winning.
Hentges Racing team owner Nate Hentges said, “Duluth was a solid start to the season. Both riders showed great signs of speed. Kody had a couple crashes that hampered his weekend. Broberg showed he’s going to be extremely competitive this year on his Hentges Polaris race sled.”
Currently in the Pro Open point standings, Pirtek Polaris riders Broberg and Kamm are in 6th and 14th respectively. The teammates and Hentges Racing crew will head to the Blackjack Ski Hill in Bessemer, Mich. for rounds three and four, Dec. 7-8, of Amsoil Championship Snocross.
Snocross action from Duluth will air on the CBS Sports Network Sunday, Dec. 30 at 10:30 a.m. EDT and again Sunday, Jan. 6 at 10:30 a.m. EDT. Catch the action there if you missed it in person!
