Eagle River, Wisconsin 1.21.13 – Team Jimmy John’s headed to northern Wisconsin this weekend to participate in one of the snowmobile industry’s iconic events- the AMSOIL World Championship Snowmobile Derby. The 50th Annual event, also known as the Indianapolis 500 of snowmobile racing saw a huge uptick in competitive spirit as event sponsor, Jimmy John’s Gourmet Sandwiches, added significant dollars to the purse this season- upping the stakes to $60,000 for the champion and making it the richest payout in modern snowmobile racing history.
Friday kicked off strong for Team Jimmy John’s/ Ski-Doo with Petter Narsa locking down the number 3 podium spot for the Friday Night Thunder Pro-Open Shoot-Out in front of a packed house! Saturday qualifying brought all three riders through to Sundays’ main events.
On Sunday Corey Watkinson placed 3rd in the Pro- Lite final securing the second podium for the team of the weekend. In the Pro Open Snocross Final Narsa set up on the line as the 4th fastest qualifier. He pulled strong off the start coming out of turn one in 4th place. then passing Johan Lidman for 3rd and showed signs of fighting with Tremblay for 2nd. As the race wore on, Narsa settled into third where he remained until the final lap of the race; breaking a front end component and slipping back to the fourth place slot.
Team Jimmy John’s is loaded up and headed to Aspen, Colorado to participate in the internationally televised Winter X Games. Events kick off at Buttermilk Mountain on Thursday, January 24 and runs through Sunday January 27th.
