Wauconda, Illinois (January 14, 2014) – This past weekend Great Lakes Region Snocross Presented by Jim Potts Motor Group (Ski Doo Dealer in Woodstock, IL) Hosted Round one of the new – Great Lakes/Great Northern Snocross Showdown Powered by Ameritemp.

This is a new two round event hosted by the Illinois & Wisconsin Affiliates of the International Series of Champions ( ISOC ). In round one Illinois affiliate Great Lakes Region Snocross (GLX) hosted the Wisconsin affiliate Great Northern Snocross Series (GNSS) in Wauconda Illinois. The two series combined for over 120 racer registrations and provided a great high flying show for the fans on a near perfect Saturday afternoon.

It was clear from the first heat race of the day that the battle was on, and the Junior 14-15 year olds led this day by GNSS racer Adam Peterson showing the on lookers that there was a battle in store. There were battles and good quality racing throughout the day and in the end GLX took the most podiums and topped the box only two times more than GNSS racers. There were many good races on this day and the finale in Plymouth Wisconsin on January 25th should be just as exciting.

The finale of the Night was the Pro Lite Super Stock – Sponsored by Acres Group of Wauconda Illinois. This featured ten of the best up an coming racers of both series, and a Five Hundred Dollar Incentive was added by the sponsor to encourage the racers.

In this twelve lap final GLX racers dominated from the first lap as Nickolas Lorenz on his EVS, Fly, Ponton Designs, SSI Decals sponsored Polaris took the hole shot over Jonathan Schwantz on his Arctic Cat, Spy, Fly, EVS, Acres Group sponsored Arctic Cat. The lead changed hands in the second lap as Schwantz moved past Lorenz , but in the third lap Lorenz recaptured the lead and never looked back finishing at the Amsoil Finish Line over ten seconds ahead of Schwantz who took 2nd in the final. Brian Petersen on his FXR, Fly Racing sponsored Ski Doo locked down the final podium spot from start to finish.

Other Notables in this final were Elliott Madison of GNSS who started in 7th and moved his way up to 4th place for four of the last six laps only to be over taken by Grant Glashagel of GLX who started 8th, and climbed his way through the field to finish 4th

“Over all this was a major success” said Dennis Whiton of GLX “as we had some very exciting racing and no major injuries to any of our racers!” Next weekend GLX will host the Chicago Communications Shootout in Wauconda at 3:00PM while GNSS will head to Eagle River.

Round Two of the Showdown will take place on Saturday January 25th as GNSS will host GLX at Plymouth Wisconsin.
