Princeton, Minn. (March 18, 2014) It came down to the last race of the last day of the season but Corin Todd swept his qualifying rounds and finished on the podium in third place to secure the first Pro Lite national championship for both himself and the team.
Todd held a 10 point advantage coming into the weekend and was leading Saturday night’s main event on his AMSOIL Polaris, but a crash on the rugged front straight relegated him to the back of the pack where he would ultimately finish ninth.
After qualifying 1-1 on Sunday morning and regaining a valuable point on his nearest challenger, Todd only needed to finish within 7 spots of his rival to secure the title. Instead, he quickly broke away from the field with the lead pack and added yet another podium to his collection in front of a massive crowd and live CBS Sports Network television audience.
Rookie Pro Lite racer Zak Mason had a stellar weekend as well, finishing fourth during both days of competition on his Reel Cameras Polaris to secure the sixth overall spot in the standings. Of particular note was Mason’s last lap pass on title contender Andrew Carlson on Saturday, as it helped preserve teammate Todd’s gap in the championship.
Trevor Leighton posted two top ten finishes during the weekend, including an impressive run aboard his Walker-Evans Polaris from a 15th starting spot on the back row of Saturday’s final to 10th. Following up with an eighth on Sunday enabled Leighton to regain the number seven spot in the year-end standings.
