Princeton, Minn. February 9, 2015 – Trevor Leighton aggravated a pre-season shoulder injury in his first round of qualifying on Friday and was forced to tough it out through AMSOIL Championship Snocross rounds nine and 10 to stay in the fight for the Pro Lite championship.
Leighton turned in a gutty, come from the back performance on Friday night to score a fifth place in the class final and maintain the point lead. On Saturday, T-Bear was strong in qualifying, finishing each round in the top three for a respectable lane choice in the final. After a slow start from the outside, Leighton worked through snow dust and heavy traffic to finish seventh and now sits four points out of the class lead.
New York race fans are among the most knowledgeable and enthusiastic on the tour and they came out in full force in Salamenca, where Pro Open rider Corin Todd did not disappoint for his home state crowd. Todd won his second heat race in as many weekends on Friday, before scoring a career-best fifth in the main event. On Saturday, Todd used an outside line to position himself among the leaders in the main event. Unfortunately, when he tried to utilize the same line on the second lap, the outer berm had been blown away and he drifted off track where he lost several positions before getting back on course. He raced his way back to a 12th place finish, good enough to advance two spots in the seasons standings where he now sits inside the top 10 (9th) for the first time in his rookie campaign.
The team now gets a well-deserved weekend off after almost 20 straight days on the road. Up next is a new venue on the circuit as we travel to the Route 66 Raceway in Chicago, Illinois for the Hollywood Casino National on February 20-21.
