DEADWOOD SHOOTOUT A GREAT BET FOR KC MOTORSPORTS’ LURA & CHRISTIAN

Finley, ND – (January 27, 2015)  KC Motorsports continues to build momentum going into the second half of the 2015-16 Snocross season. The rodeo arena at the Deadwood Shootout in Deadwood, SD offered space for one of the roughest tracks so far on the race schedule. With little room to pass, spectators enjoyed up close views of the riders, working the sleds in some of the deepest snow yet.  Temps in the 40s and 50s each day made snow retention challenging.  The track physically wore out the racers after each heat, having little rhythm and offering plenty of roost. Great holeshots and podium finishes solidified a great weekend of racing for Jay Lura and Evan Christian of KC Motorsports.  For Pro-Lite rider, Travis Kern, the Deadwood weekend was unfortunately cut short.  A hard landing in Friday’s first round of heats put Kern on the injured list with an knee injury. An MRI this week will determine the #201’s status for the next round of races. After 8 rounds, Kern is currently 8th in Pro-Lite National points.

Sport Rider, Jay Lura started Friday pulling holeshots in both qualifying heats, finishing 1st in one and 4th in the other.  In the Sport final, Jay was stupid fast on the start, grabbing the holeshot once again, and holding his own before a couple of mistakes had him settling into 3rd.  An incident on the track caused a red flag and restart, where Jay once again held third and maintained that spot for a podium finish.  Saturday’s racing was also similar.  The #217 was unstoppable, ripping holeshots in each heat race, again with finishes in 1st and 4th.  TheSport final found Lura with the holeshot and leading the first lap and a half, until the holed out track caused him to ease up and eventually fall back, however still securing a 4th place finish. “I feel like I finally put in a solid weekend, with a 3rd on Friday and 4th on Saturday.  I want to thank my sponsors, team, and especially Dave Otto for getting my sled ripping on those holeshots.” said Jay.  After 8 rounds, Lura has moved from 11th to 8th in Sport National points.

Trent Wittwer continues to show improvement throughout each weekend. Although qualifying in Deadwood on Friday was tough for the #115, Wittwer had a better go of it Saturday, finishing 4th in Heat 1 &  6th in Heat 2.  The Sport LCQ had him one spot out of qualifying for the big show, finishing 6th.

Also fast on the gas all weekend was #333 Evan Christian in the Jr. 10-13 class, never skipping a beat with his holeshots.  The #333 went 1-1 in the two Saturday morning qualifying heats.  Again, Christian grabbed the holeshot in the final, leading the race for a number of laps until falling back to second after getting passed by fellow Arctic Cat rider, Eric Downs. Evan held 2nd when the checkers flew, securing his second podium for the season and 4th top five finish so far.  Evan said, “I had alot of fun this weekend, leading the pack in my heats and getting on the box.  It felt good! I want to thank my sponsors, my family, and my team, especially Jeff Wittwer, for all their hard work.”

“We are really bummed that Travis is injured and may have to sit out a few races. For our other riders, however, we are feeling good about having figured out some things and are getting better results. Continued hard work & a little bit of luck will hopefully help us through the second half of the season. We’d also like to wish my nephew, Logan Christian of Christian Bros., a little bit of that luck as he competes at X Games this weekend in Aspen.” said Karl Christian, team owner.

KC Motorsports would like to thank their sponsors for their continued support–Arctic Cat, Fly Racing, WPS, Triple 9 Optics, Divas Snow Gear, Studboy Traction Products, Rox Speed FX, Fox Racing Shox, Go Pro, Speedwerx, Finley Motors, & Christian Brothers Ford.
