Once again, Derek Ellis (#106) gave competitors a run for their money; taking two podiums this weekend during the Vision Kia Eastern Nationals at the Finger Lakes Racetrack in Farmington, New York. Team Jimmy John’s had another solid weekend ?with all three riders advancing to their respective mains in both Friday and Saturday rounds of the AMSOIL Championship Snocross Series
The most impressive show came from Derek Ellis (#106 ) who ran hard during Friday Night’s Pro Lite Main. Starting from the inside back row, he positioned himself top 3 in the first lap; running tight with the leaders. Late in the race Ellis had a near crash in the rhythm section dropping back just a bit to finish 3rd overall.

In Saturday’s Pro Lite final, Ellis pulled the holeshot, then was passed by Kody Kamm in the first lap. Ellis and Kamm entered lapped traffic about lap 6? allowing Ellis to capitalize on Kamm’s slow down and gaining a few second lead. Three laps out from the finish, Kamm began to recover his lost ground. As Ellis and Kamm entered the final lap, Kamm swapped paint with Ellis resulting in a broken brake line for #106. Kamm took him on the outside edge and despite his braking handicap, Ellis rode to a strong 2nd place spot.

Mathieu Morin ran strong over the weekend, qualifying for both his Friday and Saturday Pro main events. A collision with Ross Martin Friday night put Morin a lap down resulting in a mid-pack finish. In Saturday’s main, Morin came out of turn one in 9th and quickly moved up 4 positions, when a blue flag slowed his ascent. Officials are currently assessing final placement for Morin, as their appears to be some question over transponder results.

The Vision Kia Nationals airs on NBC Sports Sunday, March 4 at 5 p.m. EDT. In the meantime, it’s snowing like crazy in Fargo, North Dakota. The team has returned to this US team headquarters and are prepping for a showdown at their “hometown” track for Round 9 at the Fargo National BRRP.
