PRESS RELEASE: For Immediate Release
By Mike Malueg

October 23, 2012 Wauconda, IL – ISOC Affiliate in Illinois under new management and now a 100% member owned organization looks to change the face of affiliate racing in Northern Illinois & Southern Wisconsin. Great Lakes Region Snocross (GLX) has formed from the membership of what was Winter Thunder Challenge (WTC) in Illinois. The Officers were elected by the membership and is now under the direction of a member elected board of officers.

The five elected board members, and staff of GLX have been working hard, GLX has acquired the assets of WTC, and have successfully negotiated a lease with the Golf Farm Family Fun Center in Wauconda IL to Host GLX This season. “Winter Thunder had raced at this facility for many years, and it is well suited to our sport. However that is where we feel the similarities end. We are trying to build a positive and professional club where Snocross lovers of all ages can come and develop their skills in an educational yet competitive environment where good sportsmanship and safety are promoted” said new board member and Treasurer Dennis Whiton. Dennis who has been the public address announcer for the last four years is just one of the dedicated members of the club who is working diligently to help steer GLX into the future which we believe to be a bright one.

GLX recently held its first charitable event on Saturday September 29th at Briggs and Stratton Raceway Park in Dousman Wisconsin, when they teamed up with Badger Kart Club to host a Car Show, Sled Show, Bike Show and Swap Meet fundraiser that netted over $5,000 dollars for the benefit of The Pink Ribbon Riders.

Pink Ribbon Riders© (PRR) provides financial assistance to both men and women diagnosed with breast cancer, and is a 501(c)3 not-for-profit all volunteer organization like GLX. “this event was a perfect fit for us” said Mike Malueg, President of Great Lakes Snocross, “we are both not-for-profit organizations within the snowmobiling community and what better way to get our feet wet as GLX then to help raise funds for people in need”

What to look forward to in 2012-2013 at GLX

• Changes in Scoring: This season only the top 7 of 10 events will be counted towards ISOC Showdown in Lake Geneva, while the top 8 of 11 events will be counted towards the GLX Championship. “Providing our racers with an opportunity to compete at the national level while still having the opportunity to race for a championship at the regional level is important to our growth and retention of valued racers”, said Mike.

• ALL NEW – FREE REGISTRATION – 120 Box Stock 4-12 class. This class will be for new riders who want the opportunity to experience snocross without the big price tag. This class will not require membership in our club, or transponders. Proper Safety equipment will be necessary, but GLX is also starting to look for good condition equipment (specifically Tek-Vests & Helmets to start a loaner program). The purpose of this class is to promote the sport, by providing an
affordable opportunity to try snocross racing.

• New “Members Only” Trailer Parking area. This area is being designed to bring a community feeling to our club. Members who park in this area will have several benefits including things like a community area with a fire pit, access to a grill for cooking, and more.

• There are several more changes in the plans, and our success with implementation will be driven by member support.

We invite all racers from all skill levels to come out and give us a try this season!
