Shakopee, Minn. (Feb. 24, 2014) – Hentges Racing adds one more podium finish to the season total after a mediocre weekend of racing at the Soaring Eagle’s Ram Snocross in Mt. Pleasant, Mich., during rounds 11 and 12 of 2013-14’ AMSOIL Championship Snocross. With two of the most reliable racers in the pro ranks and consistent results, Polaris/Pirtek/FXR Racing riders Kody Kamm and Justin Broberg will definitely finish this season in the top. As of now, this season will highlight as one of the most successful season in Hentges Racing history.
Broberg went through a hard day of qualifying on Friday with not so great starts. Two 4th place finishes in qualifying would be good enough to avoid the LCQ. Starting the final barely in the top ten and slowly moving up through the race, Broberg would manage to take a 6th place finish.
“I wasn’t getting the best starts so having to ride through traffic was tough. We made some positive tweaks for Saturday and I had way better starts,” said Broberg.
Friday was also tough for Kamm as he fought the wind blowing him all around the track. Struggling in the heat races and making unusual mistakes, Kamm would post two uncommon 4th finishes in qualifying, and start the main event in 9th place.
After a good start, Kamm was ready to make up for his weak qualifying. He was immediately up to 3rd place in the Pro Open main event; riding very well and putting in good, solid laps. Soon, Hibbert and Kamm in first and second respectively, would pull away from the field with Kamm just a few seconds behind. Like usual, the battle between the rivals for first and second progressed through to the finish line ending in that order.
“I got a 3rd place start in the final and moved into 2nd right away. I did my best to keep on Hibbert in the first few laps. Fighting the wind was very tough,” said Kamm.
Qualifying on Saturday went better for the Hentges team with Kamm placing 2nd in both rounds and Broberg with a 5th in round one and 3rd position in round two.
In the Saturday Pro Open main event, Broberg came off the line with a great start – into third on the first lap. A mistake in the whoops cost him two positions.
“I gained one back and was pushing to catch second and third when I cased the huge downhill triple two laps in a row. I decided to just try and hang on after that because I was pretty banged up. I’m happy to be leaving healthy and am for the most part happy with a sixth and fourth in finals,” said Broberg.
Kamm and Hibbert were back at it again on the first couple laps of the 12 lap main event. Kamm tried tripling a couple times in the whoops going over the hill and got into the lead on the first lap. He was running almost a second faster in the beginning and was able to pass Hibbert cleanly. On lap four, Hibbert and Kamm would make contact. Halfway through Kamm made a mistake taking him out of a podium position. The whoops were a challenge for all riders. Hibbert said Kamm was riding good before his crash.
“Hibbert and I switched positions a few times in the first three laps and then I made a mistake and cartwheeled into a turn. I caught back up to 9th and my steering post broke so I ended up not finishing,” said Kamm.
Starting this weekend 70 points behind Hibbert, Kamm was not able to tighten the gap this time because of a 13th place finish in Saturday’s Pro Open main event.
The chase for the championship continues as Kamm stays in second place in the Pro Open point standings. Broberg is only a few points away from moving up into the top three. Currently, he is in 5th place in the standings.
